Experience Walsh Street
‘Walsh Street’, the house Boyd designed for his own family in 1957, is his most well-known work. It has been extensively published both nationally and internationally as an exemplar of modernist Australian architecture and a house that continues to influence architectural thinking. It is now the home of the Robin Boyd Foundation.
We are pleased to announce that during Australian Heritage Festival and in partnership with National Trust, there will be a programme of Walsh Street Design Tours each Tuesday 11am until 1pm.
Featured as a part of the National Trust Australian Heritage Festival 2017: ‘Having A Voice’, we will be offering the opportunity to learn more about Boyd and his design legacy, with guided Design Tours through the Walsh Street residence.
Robin was considered the architectural voice of the late 1940’s – 1960’s. Leading the Small Homes Service and through his weekly newspaper columns in both The Age and Herald, Robin was a defining, thought provoking, and at times, controversial voice. The Design Tour includes an introduction to Boyd, the design of the house, and discussion about Boyd’s ideas and opinions of the time. Guests are then free to explore the house within the 2-hour session:
