Burke @ Bridgford | STUDENTS

Fri October 13th @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm AEDT

Frances Burke was a pioneering Australian textile and interiors designer, who collaborated with Robin Boyd and many of his contemporaries.

For 3 three days in October, Boyd’s 1953 Bridgford House, commissioned by Charles “Bill” Bridgford and wife Phyllis, will be transformed into a “House Museum” and lecture space exhibiting a selection of rare and original mid-century Frances Burke fabrics, and hosting a number of Burke related talks.

Curated by Robyn Oswald-Jacobs and Jeromie Maver, this event offers visitors a rare opportunity to view Frances Burke fabrics up close, in an original and unaltered Boyd masterpiece. A selection of framed and unframed Burke fabrics will be available for purchase at the exhibition.

Tickets per dedicated student sessions: Students & Educators $20

Alternatively, check out the Design Talk sessions on the weekend: See details here

Robyn Oswald-Jacobs is an independent scholar, having completed a diploma in textile design at RMIT before undertaking a research master’s degree on textile designer Frances Burke. In part as a result of this research the Textile Resource Collection: Australian Fashion and Textile Design was established by the Department of Fashion and Textile Design at RMIT. Managed by Oswald-Jacobs, the centre collected, exhibited and published archival material, later forming the foundation of the RMIT Design Archives. Robyn is a co-founder of ‘the make fund’.

Jeromie Maver is a researcher and collector of Australian mid-century design.
He has spent a decade building an archive of print materials, ephemera and interviews relating to this significant period of Australia’s design and manufacturing history. Jeromie has given public talks and advised on Australian design histories for public institutions including the Powerhouse Museum, Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, Museum of Sydney, and the Museum of Applied Arts, Budapest.  Jeromie is a co-founders of ‘the make fund’ (@the.make.fund) and along with Dean Keep fundraises for social causes at @modernistersfor.
