Heritage Speaker Series #3 | Post-Ironic Modernism

Wed May 15, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST

$27.27 – $40.90

As part of National Trust’s Heritage Festival, the Robin Boyd Foundation will host a panel on the topic of Midcentury Modernism in a Post Ironic World.  Hear from experts from a cross-section of design fields as they discuss heritage and its place in modern-day..

Topic: Midcentury Modernism in a Post Ironic World Post irony is a term used to connote a state in which earnest and ironic intents become muddled – is modernism simply a trend on repeat or does it have deeper connections to modern living?

Panel of Speakers

Discussion queries:

  • how has Robin Boyd’s role against ‘feature-ism’ and his aversion for the old fashioned and pastiche ideas helped or hindered an Australian identity.
  • Is midcentury modernism making modern-day design complacent?
  • Do we agree that society around the world is homogenising? Do we therefore get ‘muddled’ over the origins/identity/heritage of something?
  • Where are we headed?
