In Conversation: Jack MacRae + weaver Amy Cornall

Join us at Walsh Street for an in conversation between Tapestry Design Prize finalist architect/artist Jack MacRae and Australian Tapestry Workshop weaver Amy Cornall.
“Cool, Down Stop Acting Crazy is a study of Hard-Edge + Colourfield art and how geometric order and pure colour can be emotive. The concentric rings darken as they pull the user inward to a central focal point, in a hypnotic and meditative way. The syntax of the work layers each colour from darkest (in the centre) to lightest (outside) with primary-coloured tones. This uses the expanses of the flat colours to build the artwork up creating depth and transcendence.
The use of hard-edges, scale, proportion and palette can evoke sensory and emotional complexity without narrative content, enhancing a sense of presence in the room.”
Jack and Amy will explore the technical challenges and material opportunities discovered through their collaboration to create Cool, Down Stop Acting Crazy.
An exhibition of Tapestry Design Prize finalists will be held at Walsh Street from 14 – 16 November 2025.
Presented by the Australian Tapestry Workshop the Tapestry Design Prize 2025 is supported by Metal Manufacturers Limited, with project partners Robin Boyd Foundation, Nexus Designs, Architecture Media and Envelope Group.
