House Show Exhibition viewing including pop-up talk: Mary Featherston: Feathers 1 Rainbow Lorikeet
Feathers 1 is the first of a series of Australian birds that Mary Featherston has plucked and presented in a similar format – to enable a comparison between different birds and illustrate the beauty and complexity of nature. The Rainbow Lorikeet (Trichoglossus moluccanus) is a small parrot species found in Australia. According to the annual Birdlife Australia census, it is the most commonly observed bird in Australia, and its average size is 280mm.
Over five decades, Mary Featherston’s design practice has been primarily in two areas: furniture design in collaboration with partner Grant and design of learning environments for children in schools and cultural venues. The focus of her theory and practice is the relationship between young people, contemporary learning theory and design of supportive physical environments. Mary’s work in museums and schools has explored the possibilities of interpretive design techniques to reveal hidden information… to make the invisible visible.
