Evenings with DADo: No Other Land

Join us at Walsh Street for a screening of the documentary No Other Land (2024), a sobering yet inspiring tale of Palestinian resistance under occupation. To contextualise the film within a uniquely architectural perspective, we are pleased to be joined by architect and educator Marijke Davey who will be providing a short introductory talk.

Basel Adra is a young Palestinian activist and lawyer from Masafer Yatta, a group of Palestinian villages in the southern West Bank. Since childhood, he has been fighting his community’s mass expulsion — the largest single act of forced displacement ever carried out in the West Bank — by the Israeli occupation.

Yuval Abraham, an Israeli investigative journalist, lives a starkly different life to Adra. Striking up an unlikely friendship, the two commit themselves to documenting and protesting the demolition of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. With the help of an Israeli-Palestinian filmmaking collective, they capture the IDF destroying homes, razing schools and playgrounds, and sealing drinking wells to establish a military training ground.

No Other Land was the most highly honoured documentary of 2024. 

Accompanying the screening will be a short introductory talk by Marijke Davey. Marijke runs the architecture practice with architects, and is an Education Fellow/Studio Leader at Melbourne School of Design, leading a range of undergraduate, masters, and thesis level design studios. Marijke cares about pigeons, public space, and Palestine.

Doors will open at 6.30 pm to allow attendees to explore Walsh Street and enjoy refreshments in the courtyard. The talk and screening will commence promptly at 7 pm.

– Large bags and backpacks will need to be checked in at entry.
– Stiletto or pointed heels are not permitted due to our cork flooring.
– Tickets are refundable up to 72 hours prior to the event.
– Tickets may be exchanged as long as the purchaser advises us of the new attendee’s name via email.

Evenings with DADo offer an intimate commingling of film and dialogues centred around diverse historical and contemporary stories of architecture, design, landscape and urbanism. Feature-length films, documentaries, shorts and animations all find a home in Robin Boyd’s living room at Walsh Street. Guest speakers contribute unique perspectives on the various film subjects, kicking off the conversation in a home that decidedly sought to reject convention.
