Jump on the bus, and visit five buildings in Geelong and surrounds at our next open day, SHED house STORE house.
Departing from McGlashin Everest’s Carousel Pavilion – a lean project that demanded a disciplined response, this building is evidence that a project founded on the economy of materials can produce spectacular results.
Spring Creek Road Farm House, by Architect Brew Koch, received both the Harold Desbrowe Annear Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (New) and a National Award for Residential Architecture – Houses (New). The house sits lightly across 104 hectares, nearly half of which is protected and must be maintained in perpetuity for its biodiversity—“a house that does not command its site, but instead nourishes it.”
MGAO’s minimal additions remake an old shearing shed into a wine-tasting venue in Sutherlands Creek. The design retains the shed’s raw character while creating a refined space shaped by history and landscape.
“there was a country feel to them as clients
can’t help it… when i think country… i think sheds
wool sheds, wood sheds, shearing sheds, storage sheds and engineering sheds…
anything corrugated and slightly raised off the ground”
– multiplicity on the [back]yard goes on forever.
Concluding the day, is a rare and distinctive example of a commercial storehouse built of plate iron, designed, pre-fabricated and constructed by a single manufacturer, Robertson and Lister of Glasgow.
