Marika Neustupny is founding Director of NMBW. She has taught in design and urban research since 1995, Marika has a Master of Architecture from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan) and a PhD from the University of Queensland. She worked and studied in Tokyo for over 3 years and is fluent in Japanese language. Marika led the NMBW studies unit ‘When Robin Boyd Went to Japan’ at Monash University, Semester 2, 2023. Marika has been part of many award-winning project design teams such as for the University of Melbourne New Student Precinct, winner of the 2023 Victorian Architecture Gold Medal. Marika is currently chair of the National Committee for Gender Equity, Australian Institute of Architects.
Nigel Bertram is a founding Director of NMBW, Practice Professor in Architecture at Monash University and Adjunct Professor at University of Western Australia. He has a Master of Architecture from RMIT University and was awarded his PhD from the same university in 2010. Nigel has taught at Monash and RMIT Universities for over 20 years, and is currently a Design Review Panel member for the Office of the Victorian Government Architect. He has authored a number of research publications, and has a range of experience working at different scales on NMBW’s award winning projects. He has worked at a local office in Tokyo and will be the second point of contact for this exhibition.
