Becoming a Robin Boyd Foundation volunteer means that you are joining a passionate and committed group of people who contribute to the care and maintenance of our iconic midcentury Walsh Street residence and our year-long programs and tours. The public’s primary interaction with the foundation is through our enthusiastic volunteers. RBF volunteers enjoy a range of benefits including free attendance to select events at Walsh Street, Open Days events and other activities.
Your passion and enthusiasm for architecture, design and heritage and desire to work with other like minded and enthusiastic people is all that is needed.

Volunteer Opportunities Available
Volunteer working bees are a vital part of ensuring that the Walsh Street house and its legacy is preserved for years to come. Volunteers assist with the preservation and care of the house and gardens. Our working bees area great way to get involved and occur bi-monthly on a Saturday morning 9 am – 12 pm.
Become involved with the Robin Boyd Collection and the 60+ year Walsh Street residence as a Collections Volunteer. The foundation has opportunities for volunteers with experience or interest in collections management, gallery or museum administration, or archival research. In 2022 saw the launch of the Walsh Street Archives on Victorian Collections. Roles may vary depending on upcoming projects.
Walsh Street Guided Tours
Volunteer Tour Guides assist with our monthly tours of the historic home of Robin Boyd by checking in visitors, setting up the house and providing information to the public as they explore the Walsh Street residence.
Volunteers assisting with public programs can expect to be helping at events such as music performances, book launches, exhibitions and symposiums. Our volunteers are briefed by the team and provided with everything they need to feel confident on the day. These events appear frequently in our calendar, are varied in nature and are a lot of fun.
A few times a year the foundation runs Open Days at significant contemporary and historic locations. Volunteers are an essential to their success and perform a range of roles including invigilation, book sales and assisting visitors with ticketing and registration.
DADo Film Society
Volunteers for the DADo Film Society work in a small team to program architecture and design films that are screened at Walsh Street. The group curates, plans and delivers the season of films each introduced by an academic or practitioner. The Evenings with DADo run on Tuesday nights, with 7 screenings in the annual calendar.
Graduate Internships or Student placements
Unfortunately we currently do not have capacity for formal internships or placements, but volunteering with us is a rewarding opportunity to network and learn. The Robin Boyd Foundation wants to work with students who are studying architecture, design, cultural management and related fields looking for practical experience working in a non-profit cultural organisation.
