Becoming a Robin Boyd Foundation volunteer means that you are joining a passionate and committed group of people who contribute to the care and maintenance of our iconic midcentury Walsh Street residence and our year-long programs and tours. The public’s primary interaction with the Foundation is through our enthusiastic volunteers.
Your passion and enthusiasm for architecture, design and heritage and desire to work with other like minded and enthusiastic people is all that is needed.

Volunteer Opportunities Available
Volunteer working bees are a vital part of ensuring that the Walsh Street house and its legacy is preserved for years to come. Volunteers assist with the presentation and care of the house and gardens, whilst nurturing and preserving Boyd’s emphasis of the relationship between indoors and outdoors.
Admin & Marketing
Admin & Marketing Volunteers assist with general office support and database upkeep. Volunteers must be proficient in basic Microsoft office software, with marketing opportunities for individuals who have a portfolio of written or social media work.
Collections & Archives
Become involved with the Robin Boyd Collection and the 60+ year Walsh Street residence as a Collections & Archives Volunteer. The Foundation has opportunities for volunteers with experience or interest in collections management, gallery or museum administration, or archival research.
Open Volunteer Spots: based on project needs. Note some evening or weekend work may be required.
Programs & Open Days
Programs & Open Day Volunteers are an essential to the success of the Foundation’s inspirational and educational events and tours. Volunteers assist on the day with Walsh Street events and Open Days, guest-lists, general safety supervision.
Must be available evenings and weekends.
Housekeeping & Conservation
Housekeeping Volunteers ensure that the historic Walsh Street house is properly cleaned and maintained. Volunteers get a unique insight into maintaining a historic house and assist with condition reports. The Foundation holds a monthly working bee on the first Saturday of each month, so Saturday availability is essential for this role.
The Foundation’s Walsh Street Tour Volunteer Guides are essential to the success of the Foundation’s inspirational and educational events and tours at the historic home of Robin Boyd. Receive valuable training on leading our public Walsh Street house tours (which last approximately 2 hours) and presenting talks on Robin Boyd’s life and his lasting influence.
Volunteers who apply for this role must have some experience in tour guiding or interpretive public speaking.
Must be available for a mix of business and evening hours and some weekend hours.
Graduate Internships or Student placements
Thank you for your interest! The Robin Boyd Foundation wants to work with students who are studying architecture and design and want practical experience working with experts in a non-profit and public education environment. The Foundation currently does not have capacity for formal internships or placements, but volunteering with us is a rewarding opportunity to network and learn.
