“I wanted to capture something of the Monterey pine on the street frontage and its relationship to the house. This tree had been planted
when the house was built and now it was being removed. The photography was planned for late afternoon so I could catch the sun
coming in under the eaves and the view through to the tree’s trunk. We raised the blinds on the clerestory windows – battling broken
cords and raising dust – they hadn’t been up in a while! The tree was revealed, light streamed in and the clinker ceiling caught the sun.”

Peter Bennetts is known for his “straight-shooting” style of architectural photography, focusing on the formal, material and atmospheric
qualities of a project. Bennetts studied photography at RMIT and began his career focusing on environmental issues. This interest evolved into a burgeoning
career in photographing the constructed environment and since 1997 St Kilda-based Bennetts has been documenting the pre-eminent
architecture and design of both his home country Australia and the international arena. Bennetts maintains his interest in environmental
issues – camera at hand, you might find him on a remote coral atoll in the Central Pacific, topping out on a tropical glacier or backcountry
skiing in the Alps. But when he’s not fighting global warming and his own fears he’s intent on maintaining the image of those architects
and designers most dedicated to the idea of sangfroid.

His work regularly appears in local and international publications.
